Made in the USA, the light is built with an aluminum case and is certified waterproof. It is light enough at 121 grams to mount on a helmet.

Features such as amber side marker lights (for side visibility) and a beam pattern that’s designed to increase depth perception make the light stand out.

About the name… the “FC” in the model stands for “fast charge” — it goes from empty to powered up in about 2.5 hours, which is significantly faster than past models. A nice upgrade.

I picked up the Urban 800 Fast Charge bike headlight a few months ago. It replaced a Planet Bike light I got from REI and the differences are stunning. Sometimes literally, to cars - which, as a daily bike commuter, this can be a life saver.

Now drivers don't roll down their windows after nearly clobbering me shouting "Sorry, man, I didn't see you!" --saving thousands of dollars in court fees from fist fights, hundreds in wind sheild replacement and the physical therapy fees from the repeated-use injury I have to my middle finger. THANKS, Light & Motion (thumbs up).

I love the fast charge USB thingamajiggywhoseywhatzit (that's the technical term). What that means to the lay person is I can keep this dude on "HEY CARS SEE ME, DAMN IT" mode for 3-4 days straight then give it some juice while at work and take the the dangerous streets again and I live to ride another day.

The light casts a nice even beam over the road so I see what's around me.

Used to be in the winter I would routinely go unseen. Even though I sport a helmet light, reflective tires, a vest that lights up, front and back lights and reflective tape strategically placed on my rig (that’s no joke). Now the shoe's on the other foot. Cars go routinely unseen by me and its like Mad Max out there. This happened just the other day.

Revenge is sweet and so is this light.

Whether you’ve got a daily commuter or a singletrack addict on your list, they’re going to droll over this one. The new line of 800-lumen Urban lights from Light & Motion have side-facing beams (for better on-road visibility), a battery gauge on the back, handlebar and helmet mounts, and a golf ball-like beam pattern that disperses the light more evenly than other lights. A USB adapter makes it easy to keep this baby charged.

Over the years Light and Motion has produced a steady stream of rock solid lighting for cyclists, divers and hikers. I have long been a fan, and when presented with the opportunity to test the new Urban 800 Fast Charge, I admit I was a happy camper. I have tried previous generations of the Urban line, and have always been impressed with the lights. I was curious as to how Light and Motion could improve upon a seemingly perfect product, but as evidenced by the new Urban 800, the engineers at Light and Motion have been busy. The most important improvement in my opinion is the beam of light. The new Urban distributes the beam in a smooth and even pattern.

Problems can compound quickly in winter, so we never head out without a backup light. The bar- or helmet-mounted Urban ($180) is smaller than a mini pump, but it straps on quickly in a pinch and throws out a blaze of 800 lumens, which is more than enough for negotiating the frigid backwoods.

At 800 lumens and even at lower settings, the 800 is anything from gloriously bright to efficiently long burning. Some of this can be attributed to an all new heatsink design along with new programing to maximize efficiency and protect the LED. The side indicators are immensely bright but don’t seem to rob much light from the front emitter and don’t distract the rider. Both the output and beam pattern of the Urban 800 already make this light a new favorite.

We have over the years well-documented the Seca line of lights from Light & Motion. But at Interbike 2014, they had some other great options on display as well. The Urban version boasts 800 lumens and if you do get the fast charge, you have a light that charges back up in 2 hours.

I picked this light out as a birthday gift and man am I glad I did. This thing is super bright! Not only does its powerful 800 lumen CREE L.e.d. Light Give me full visibility to avoid hazardous road conditions , but it has 2 side lights for added illumination. It is light weight and, takes about 2 hours to charge and it's ready to go! I wouldn't trust any other light to get me through the night like I trust the Urban 800.

Every one of Light & Motion's lights is built in Marina, California, making them the only bike light company currently manufacturing their products in the United States. The Urban 800 (left) is fully waterproof, a fact that will make it especially appealing to riders in the wet climes of the Pacific Northwest and the UK. The light includes both a helmet and a handlebar mount, and retails for $179.99 for the Fast Charge version, which will charge fully in 2.5 hours, or $149.99 for the standard version that takes 6 hours to recharge. The Taz 1500 is their flagship off-road light for 2015, boasting 1500 lumens and a burn time of 1.5 hours at the brightest setting. The medium setting brings that time up to 3 hours, and the light will run for 6 hours on the low setting. There's also a Race mode that makes it possible to switch between the high and low setting with one touch rather than cycling though all of the available settings. MSRP: $299.99.

I am completely sold on Light and Motion products. I ran the Urban 550 last winter and it was a dream - so bright and long run times. Quick to charge and easy with its USB compatible cord. I felt safer and more visible than I ever have during winter commuting. It is also durable and waterproof (which was tested here in the Pacific Northwest). I added the rear light part way through the winter and love it. I went through 2 Planet Bike rear blinky lights first...nothing is more disappointing to get to work and find out your rear light turn off sometime during your ride. They have poor seals and kept shorting out in the rain. No problems like that with Light and Motion.
